ANKARA, (BM) – The royal families of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates consider Turkey a threat, since Ankara does not give them the opportunity to implement their plans in the Middle East, the Turkish Sabah writes in an article.

According to the publication, the bloc, which includes Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Egypt, plans to draw closer to Israel and oppose Turkey: they want to maintain the status quo of the countries of the region – so that countries accept dictators and abandon the desire for freedom, political transformation, democratization or constitutional amendments.

REPORT: Idlib: Erdogan threatens with military action

“Turkey supported the uprisings of the Arab spring and sided with the peoples, which infuriated the monarchies of the Persian Gulf region, who believe that the Arab spring could threaten their stability,” Sabah writes.

Saudi and UAE media urge Arab tourists to stop visiting Turkey, citing fictitious or exaggerated reports of crimes, abductions and harassment of women in the country, distort history, accuse Turkey of spreading coronavirus in Saudi Arabia and Arab countries. According to Sabah, the Arab media is manipulating the entertainment industry to discredit Ottoman history.

In the UAE’s opera Kingdom of Fire, producers focused on the history of the Ottoman Empire, not as the zenith of Muslim unity, but as a dark time for the Arabs. In addition, the Saudi authorities blocked two Turkish news Internet portals – TRT Arabi and Anadolu Agency. This happened after Turkish prosecutors accused 20 Saudis of killing journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the consulate of Saudi Arabia in Istanbul. Turkey gathered evidence against Saudi Arabia in the Khashoggi case and prosecuted Crown Prince Mohammed Ibn Salman.

Ankara accused the UAE of supporting the 2016 coup attempt in Turkey. After defeating ISIS (banned in the Russian Federation) and the fall of the self-proclaimed caliphate of a terrorist organization in the Syrian city of Raqqa, Saudi Arabian Gulf Minister Tamer al-Sabhan visited the area and met with representatives of the Raqqah Civil Council, controlled by the YPG, a Syrian branch of the PKK organization that is fighting with Turkey for over 40 years.

Since the assassination of Khashoggi in 2017, Turkey has managed to form a lengthy media campaign to hold the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia and his supporters in Western democracies accountable.

REPORT: The motto of the Berlin conference on Libya: “No outside interference” is contradicted daily

“Since Turkey believes that the current ruling clique in these countries does not reflect the true face of these states and the historical relations between the fraternal powers, its strategy does not provide for a reciprocal character. It prefers to benefit from the interests of the countries of this region and minimize the victories of regional rulers, who are only interested in demonizing Turkey and inciting hatred for it in their countries, Turkey does not respond to these false and slanderous campaigns. It is strange that the Saudi media accused Turkey deliberately spreads the coronavirus, while the kingdom hides the number of infected among its pilgrims,” Sabah writes.

Meanwhile, Turkey does not hesitate to take measures to protect its interests. When Qatar needed support against the blockade of Saudi Arabia and its intention to invade the country, Turkey decided to deploy its armed forces there and conclude a bilateral agreement on defense and military cooperation.

“In Libya, Turkey openly supports the government not only in terms of logistics, but also by deploying military equipment and sending troops to participate in the ongoing struggle against the Saudi-Emirate bloc, led by the coup general Khalifa Haftar,” the Turkish newspaper writes.

The conflict between Turkey and its opponents is expected to intensify in various parts of the Middle East and North Africa. According to rumors, Mohammed Ibn Zayed, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, is trying to force the Syrian regime to end the ceasefire with Turkish-backed forces in Idlib province to exacerbate the conflict with Ankara.

For the front led by Saudi Arabia, this is not only a matter of achieving leadership in the Muslim world, but also an ideologically important point, since other points of view do not exist there.

REPORT: Idlib: Erdogan opposes al-Assad and Putin

Sabah compares such a policy with the formula of former US President George W. Bush: “Either you are with us, or against us.” “Turkey does not support this rhetoric and does not abandon attempts to protect its interests and support people under dictatorship,” the Turkish publication said.
