Russia will try to intervene in the 2020 US president election, DHS and FBI warned

WASHINGTON, (BM) – The U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the FBI have warned how Russia will allegedly try to intervene in the 2020 US election. This was reported by the Associated Press, citing an official document of departments.

According to security officials, Moscow can secretly advise or finance a particular candidate or his campaign headquarters. To help, Russia can carry out a hacker attack, “merge” sensitive information, use fake accounts on social networks to influence the opinion of voters. They also allowed Moscow to use economic and business leverage, as well as the media, to influence political goals in the United States.

In addition, intelligence agencies pointed to Russia’s ability to influence the electoral infrastructure, including a vote counting system and a database of voters.

Over the past few years, a regularly discussed topic in the American media has been the influence of Russia and Vladimir Putin on US politics. Initially, from the end of 2016, it concerned Moscow’s interference in the presidential election. Currently, journalists continue to discuss possible cooperation between US President Donald Trump and the Republican Party with Moscow. Russia denies these allegations.

The fact that Moscow could interfere in the current electoral process in the United States, in February, the newspaper The Washington Post wrote. According to her, Russia tried to help Bernie Sanders, one of the Democratic presidential candidates.

In April 2019, the full text of the report of Special Prosecutor Robert Muller on Russian intervention in the 2016 US presidential election was published. According to his findings, Moscow really influenced them – in particular, the Russian GRU (GU) transferred to the WikiLeaks materials of the US Democratic Party. The subject of the investigation was also a possible connection between Trump and the Russian government. The authors of the report concluded that there was no conspiracy between Trump and Russia.

The US presidential election is scheduled for November 3. Presumably, the incumbent President Donald Trump will be elected from the Republican Party, Democrats will support Joe Biden.
