Russia sends Syrian mercenaries to Libya, the Germany’s Bild said

BERLIN, (BM) – Vladimir Putin sends Syrian mercenaries to Libya, learned BulgarianMilitary.com citing the German news agency Bild. The publication notes that the Russian leader probably wants to foment a war in North Africa.

In the east and in the southern regions of Syria, bordering Israel, “through the (pseudo) private military company Wagner”, Moscow recruits and organizes combat training of a part of the local male population for sending to Libya, thus hoping to strengthen the national army under the command of General Haftar, opposing to government forces in Tripoli,” writes Bild. “The use of PMCs gives the Kremlin the opportunity to“ continue to plausibly deny its participation in the conflict, ”making its actions“ absolutely similar to the (Russian) strategy in occupied Eastern Ukraine.”

According to the publication, mercenaries and weapons for Haftar are delivered from the Russian air base in the Syrian province of Latakia, from where over the past three months more than eight dozen such flights have been made.

Thus, Bild emphasizes, Russia “flagrantly violates all the UN declarations it has signed, the arms embargo and the final declaration of the Berlin Conference of January 2020 on Libya”.

The publication notes that some Syrians, having found out that they were not hired to protect the Libyan oil facilities, refused to take part in the hostilities.
