DARPA begins development of bioelectronic implants for US military

WASHINGTON, (BM) – The development of a body-implantable bioelectronic adapter for automatically adjusting sleep cycles and for controlling pathogens that cause diarrhea was launched at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), learned BulgarianMilitary.com according to a published order HR001120S0041 from the US Department of Defense.

The order was posted on April 2 2020 and the due date is June 18 2020.

The new development of DARPA – the Advanced Acclimation and Protection Tool or ADAPTER is designed to conduct therapy inside the body of a military serviceman.

One of the tasks that DARPA intends to solve thanks to the new development is the problem of digestive upset, which often arises among soldiers during a combat mission in an area where there is usually no way to bring quality food and water.

Also, with the help of this innovation, American developers hope to remove the problem of lack of sleep and the adaptation of military personnel to changing time zones. ADAPTER will manage the daily biorhythms of fighters, halving the time required to restore normal sleep after disturbances that occur after changing time zones.

These decisions are necessary to maintain personnel in full combat readiness during the performance of the assigned task.

“Both will improve the health and mobility of fighters,” DARPA said.

In the management of DARPA, one of the mandatory development requirements was a guarantee of the security of the solutions used for the body of soldiers. The developed solutions should exclude the possibility of influencing the human body at the genetic level and generally not allow any irreversible changes in the human body.
