Russia has developed a new powerful cartridge for a 9mm pistol Udav

MOSCOW, (BM) – One of the world’s most powerful 9 mm caliber cartridges for the Udav pistol, which has a high lethal effect, was developed at the Central Research Institute of Precision Engineering, learned BulgarianMilitary.com citing EurAsia Daily.

“The new ammunition, which is also called the Udav cartridge, provides high lethal action and is one of the most powerful representatives of the 9 mm caliber in the world,” commented the director general of TsNIItochmash Albert Bakov.

The Rostec press service explained that a number of existing full-time 9-mm pistol cartridges can penetrate body armor of the second protection class, but the penetration range of modern body armor with fabric armor panels is significantly less than that of the new development. Penetration rates were improved due to a unique design and technological solution.

“The know-how of our patrons is the configuration of a bullet core with a cutting edge at its top. Despite the skepticism in the design, it was later experimentally established that such a design of the bullet core does not affect the accuracy of fire,” said Bakov.

A batch of 50 of the latest 9-mm self-loading pistols Udav will go to the units of the Ministry of Defense of Russia in 2020. The military department noted that the new self-loading pistol, known as the Udav pistol complex, successfully completed the pilot military operation, which began in May 2019.

The gun showed stable operation and high ballistic qualities in various conditions, including at extreme temperatures: from minus 50 degrees to 70 degrees of heat, which makes it suitable for use by all military branches.
