Top 5 fastest tanks in the World
The first tank appeared on the battlefield in 1916 during the First World War. Over time, they became a key participant in any ground operation. Such combat vehicles are produced by most of the advanced countries of the world. In addition to powerful armor, guns and patency, such an indicator as speed is important. Today we will talk about the fastest tanks in the world.
#5 – Ukrainian BM Oplot tank
Our list opens the main battle tank of Ukraine BM Oplot. It is built according to the classic layout with a control compartment located in the frontal part.
In the middle is the fighting compartment, and in the aft part there is a motor-transmission compartment. The tank is armed with a 125 mm smoothbore gun with 48 caliber. The designers installed on Oplot a six-cylinder diesel engine with a volume of 16.3 liters and a capacity of 1200 horsepower. Thanks to him, a combat vehicle can accelerate to 70 kilometers per hour on the highway and 40-45 km / h on rough terrain.
#4 – South Korean K2 Black Panther tank
The main battle tank manufactured in South Korea is considered a new generation combat vehicle. “Black Panther” was created using exclusively South Korean technology.
The tank is armed with a 120-mm smooth-bore cannon having a length of 6.6 meters, paired with a 7.62-mm cannon and a 12.7-mm anti-aircraft machine gun mounted on the roof of the tower. The power plant includes a diesel engine with a capacity of 1,500 horsepower. Also, the combat vehicle is equipped with a gas turbine installation with a capacity of 400 horsepower, which ensures the functioning of the generator and power supply of electrical equipment, in case of failure of the main engine. The tank can accelerate along the highway to 70 kilometers per hour, and 50 km / h on the road.
#3 – French AMX-56 Leclerc tank
In third place is the main battle tank of the French Armed Forces. AMX-56 Leclerc is considered one of the most complex and technologically advanced in the world. This is due to the fact that under his armor is the most modern electronics.
Its body is designed in the classic version with a control compartment and a driver-mechanic in front, a combat center in the middle and a motor-transmission rear. The Leclerc received a smooth-bore 120-mm 52-caliber gun. Using it, you can use shells from the Abrams and Leopard 2 tanks. The combat vehicle is equipped with a V-shaped eight-cylinder diesel engine with a power of 1,500 horsepower, allowing it to reach speeds of up to 71 km / h on the highway and 50 km / h on rough terrain.
#2 – German Leopard 2A7 + tank
The deeply modernized version of the Leopard 2A6 tank was first shown to the general public in 2010. The designers adapted the combat vehicle to perform both ordinary combat missions and actions in urban environments.
The leopard 2A7 + is equipped with a 120 mm 55-caliber smoothbore gun. The German tank is made according to the traditional scheme. In the power compartment of the combat vehicle is a V-shaped liquid-cooled turbo-charged diesel engine. Its power is 1,500 horsepower. The maximum speed is 72 km / h on the highway and 45 km / h on the road.
#1 – Russian T-14 tank
The first place on our list was taken by the latest Russian battle tank with an uninhabited tower, designed on the basis of the Armata universal tracked platform. Its premiere took place at the Victory Parade in 2015.
Currently, it is known about the plans of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation to get 2,300 of these military vehicles until 2025. The hull of the tank is protected by the fourth-generation Malachite dynamic armor, which can repel shots from hand-held anti-tank grenade launchers with a 95% chance and neutralize modern sub-caliber anti-tank shells. The first samples of the T-14 received 125-mm smoothbore guns, which allow you to hit the enemy while in motion. However, the combat vehicle can easily be retrofitted to 152 mm guns. The engine has an automatic transmission of variable power from 1200 to 1800 horsepower, allows the tank to accelerate to 90 km / h on the highway and up to 60 km / h on rough terrain.
