Greece is still in a state of emergency because of the migrants from Turkey

ATHENS, (BM) – Two Greek ministers in charge of the country’s security forces said that Greece was still in a state of emergency due to the attempted entry of a large number of migrants from Turkey, although many of them had already left the border area, learned citing Greek news agency Kathemirini.

Greek Defense Minister Nikos Panayotopoulos and Minister of Homeland Security Michalis Chrysochoidis, responsible for internal security, recently visited the border at Kastani. “We also discussed the current situation with the leadership of the armed forces and the Greek police at the local level, with people who fulfill their mission of guarding the border, demonstrating unprecedented resilience even during Clean Monday. At the entrance of the meeting, we planned our next actions,” Panayotopoulos said, referring to the statement by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan that Turkey will allow migrants to freely cross the Turkish side of the border towards Europe. “I must say that the words of the Turkish leader were heard on the weekend before the Orthodox Christian holiday of Clean Monday, marking the beginning of Lent”.

Recall that Erdogan made this statement after Syrian government forces killed dozens of Turkish soldiers in Idlib in northwestern Syria. Turkish President said the European Union refused to assist Turkey in financing the costs of supporting millions of refugees. In turn, European leaders accused the Turkish president of using migrants and refugees to blackmail the bloc.

According to the Greek minister, Greece, the border forces of the European Union External Border Security Agency and other European security forces sent to the Greek-Turkish border to stop migrants, continues to maintain order, despite the departure of many migrants.
