“We conducted a joint check of posts with the Turkish side on the M4 highway. No problematic issues were identified, there were no issues for both sides,” Zhukov said. According to him, two armored vehicles participated on both sides. In 1 hour 10 minutes they traveled more than 60 kilometers.

The main objective of the joint event was to monitor the situation and verify compliance with the ceasefire, as well as to verify the possibility of unhindered movement along the trans-Frat section of the route. During the movement, servicemen checked to see if the number of stationary posts from the south and north, the presence of armed groups and formations near the road had increased.

The other day, Russian observers noticed suspicious off-road vehicles with white flags on the highway, but they were not found during the check.

During the cooperation, the Russian and Turkish sides discuss not only security issues, but also humanitarian ones. This happened this time: in the territory controlled by the militants there is a water pump station that supplies water to a large number of settlements and fields of the Syrian Zaevfraty, however, militants periodically turn off the water, demanding in exchange for electricity supplies, since the electrical substation located on their territory is looted. Employees of the Russian Center for the Reconciliation of the warring parties are joining the negotiations.

“There is a problem with the virus in the world (coronavirus infection – Ed.), We need to keep it clean here, there is water. When solving the issue of electricity, the water problem will also be solved,” the Turkish military explained during the discussion.

“I will give the command of the Turkish side to the command. But the Turkish side should take all measures to increase water supply in the region,” the representative of the military police of the Russian Armed Forces replied.

The joint verification was carried out as part of the agreements between the presidents of Russia and Turkey, Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who signed a memorandum on joint actions to resolve the situation in northeast Syria on October 22, 2019 in Sochi. Joint activities in the area will continue.
