The US aircraft carrier Theodore Roosevelt is quarantined – three sailors with coronavirus
WASHINGTON, (BM) – Three members of the US Navy on the aircraft carrier Theodore Roosevelt fell ill with a new coronavirus. This was reported by Fox News, citing four of its sources in the US Department of Defense, learned BulgarianMilitary.com.
It is noted that infected sailors are currently in quarantine on board the vessel. During the day they are planned to be taken out of there. In total, five thousand people serve on the aircraft carrier.
Attention is drawn to the fact that “Theodore Roosevelt” in January of this year left the city of San Diego (California). The strike group of six ships was further in the waters of the South China Sea to conduct military exercises there.
Earlier on March 21, it was reported that a coronavirus was found in 35 US troops located in Europe.
On March 7, COVID-19 was diagnosed with a US Navy sailor serving in Naples, Italy. Two days later, the media reported that the presence of infection was suspected of the commander of the US forces in Europe, Christopher Cavoli and several members of his headquarters.
An outbreak of COVID-19 pneumonia occurred in Wuhan, China, at the end of December last year. Outside of China, the disease was diagnosed in patients in 196 countries. On March 11, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced the coronavirus pandemic.
According to Worldometer data, on March 24, more than 414 thousand cases of the disease were confirmed in the world, more than 18.5 thousand people died.
