South Korea prepares an answer to the Russian Su-57 and the American F-35

WASHINGTON, (BM) – A coronavirus pandemic could hit not only the Russian Su-57 fighter, but also other promising aircraft. Earlier, South Korea announced the development of its fifth-generation aircraft.

KFX was supposed to be the answer to the American F-35 and Japanese F-3, however, according to The National Interest magazine, everything is far from simple for Seoul. And South Korea is unlikely to join the fifth-generation elite club in the near future, like Turkey.

For the first time, the South Korean newspaper Korea Joongang Daily wrote about the creation of KFX in October last year. According to her, KFX stands for Korean Fighter Experimental. Work on the project has been going on for two decades, and $ 7 billion has already been spent on it.

Launch of production is planned in 2026, the military will order 120 fighters, by the way, this is much more than an order for the Su-57 for the Russian military. In total, $ 16 billion will be spent on the South Korean program.

Each KFX will cost $ 130 million, i.e. more expensive than the F-35. According to NI, this is an alarming bell, since the United States is now struggling to reduce the cost of its “thirty-fifths.” And this is considering the fact that the aircraft is delivered to countries around the world.

As the Japanese Air Force General Hideyuki Yoshioka previously stated, $ 100 billion is needed to build and operate a fleet of several dozen fifth-generation fighters. By the way, in the Land of the Rising Sun they are developing their own aircraft, so the military knows what he is talking about.

Seoul could contain a fleet of fifth-generation fighters, but only if it entered into lucrative KFX contracts. Neither Russia with its Su-57, nor China with its J-20 have yet coped with this task. What will happen in Seoul, time will tell.
