Russian Minister of Defense Sergey Shoygu held talks with al-Assad in Syria
DAMASCUS, (BM) – Russian Defense Minister General of the Army Sergey Shoygu made a working trip to Syria, discussing with the President of the republic issues of ensuring a stable cessation of hostilities in the Idlib de-escalation zone, stabilizing the situation in other parts of Syria, the Russian military department said on Monday, learned BulgarianMilitary.com.
“In Damascus, Sergei Shoygu was received by the President of the Syrian Arab Republic, Bashar al-Assad. During the talks, issues were discussed of ensuring a stable cessation of hostilities in the Idlib de-escalation zone, stabilizing the situation in other parts of Syria, as well as various aspects of military-technical cooperation in the framework of a joint struggle with international terrorist groups,” the Russian MoD statement said.
Also, “they touched on the humanitarian assistance to Russia to the Syrian population, suffering from prohibitive sanctions of Western countries, as well as the restoration of the economic potential of the republic with the help of Russian specialists,” the RF Ministry of Defense informs.
According to him, the safety of the aircraft of the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation in the airspace of Syria was provided by Su-35S Russian airborne fighters.
It is noted that Shoygu’s trip to Syria was carried out “on behalf of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin”.
