The likelihood of a military conflict between Iraq and US cannot be denied

PANAGYURISHTE, (BM) – A new military hotbed could erupt due to Baghdad’s reluctance to continue dancing to Washington’s tune and the latter’s intention to maintain its military presence in Iraq for as long as possible.

Shelling of the military bases of the US-led coalition has already become a routine. Americans hold retaliation, but it does not give any result. Washington accuses the Shiite militia and its supporting Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) of all sins.

It would be logical for the White House to decide again on the destruction of another general IRGC, but the owner of the Oval Office is not up to it now, he is preparing for a new presidential election and he clearly does not need a new adventure with unpredictable consequences.

The United States is unlikely to dare to start a war with Iran in the near future, but they may well punish the obstinate ally.

US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo has threatened the Iraqi government that the Pentagon will take military action in response to missile strikes at local bases where US troops are stationed, a note released Monday by the State Department.

On Sunday, the US Secretary of State held a telephone conversation with Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi, this happened just the day after 33 rockets from BM-13 fell on Al-Taji base, north of Baghdad (Katyusha “).

We remind you that before the aforementioned shelling, US Air Force bombers struck a civilian airport under construction near the city of Karbala, populated mainly by Shiites. In addition, one of the Hezbollah Shiite militia bases in eastern Syria, near the Iraqi border, was attacked from the air by 18 Shiite militants.

Now in Iraq there are about 6 thousand American troops, soon this contingent will be strengthened by units of the 101st Airborne Division. The deployment of Patriot batteries and C-RAM systems at bases near Baghdad continues.

Tensions in the region are increasing. It is very likely that in the near future there will begin hostilities between the coalition forces and the Shiite militia. By the way, the latter promised to begin the expulsion of Americans from the country on March 15. The nervous situation is aggravated by the coronavirus pandemic that began in Iraq and is rampant in Iran.

Iraqi Major General Tashin Al-Hafaji, a spokesman for the Iraqi Joint Operations Command, a body established to organize engagement between the U.S. armed forces and Iraqi security forces, announced on Sunday the suspension of all cooperation and joint operations with foreign forces led by the U.S. And that can mean anything.

The likelihood of a military conflict between Iraq and the United States cannot be denied. In any case, American officers are already openly declaring that they consider the Iraqi army (formed on the basis of the Shiite militia) to be the enemy of their former allies.
