Indonesia won’t buy Russian Su-35s and the $1.14 billion deal failed
JAKARTA, (BM) – Indonesia refused to buy Russian Su-35 fighters due to threats of US sanctions, learned BulgarianMilitary.com citing Russian news agency TASS with reference to Bloomberg.
This is a contract for the supply of 11 aircraft worth more than a billion dollars. Jakarta decided to abandon his imprisonment due to pressure from the US Presidential Administration Donald Trump, who promised in this case to impose sanctions.
In addition, the Americans opposed the deal on patrol ships between Indonesia and China.
The fact that the supply of Russian Su-35 Indonesia is postponed due to US sanctions, Kommersant reported in October 2019.
According to sources, the United States did not give Indonesia guarantees not to apply restrictive measures against it because of cooperation with Russia.
The agreement for the supply of 11 fighters Russia and Indonesia signed in February 2018. The contract value was estimated at 1.14 billion dollars. It was noted that half of the amount – 570 million dollars – will be able to pay for goods deliveries. It was planned to start the transfer of aircraft back in 2019.
Su-35 – multi-functional fighter generation 4 ++. The last combat aircraft built on the basis of the T-10S platform, which became the basis for the Su-27 / Su-30 family fighters and their modifications. The aircraft is purchased by the Russian Air Force (two contracts for 98 aircraft), and is also sold to China in the Su-35SK version (24 aircraft, the first ones transferred in December 2016).
