Saudi King’s brother and nephew were detained on charges of treason

RIYADH, (BM) – Saudi King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud’s brother and nephew Ahmad bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud and Muhammad bin Naif were detained on Friday on charges of treason.

This was reported by the American newspaper The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), citing sources.

Sources in the Qatari television station Al Jazeera at the office of the Saudi palace also claim that members of the royal family are being detained since Wednesday. However, they did not give any names.

In 2015, King Salman appointed Prince Mohammed bin Naif as heir to the throne and deputy prime minister of the kingdom. However, in June 2017, the king replaced the heir, appointing instead of his nephew his son, Mohammed bin Salman. The media reported on the house arrest of Muhammad bin Naif. However, the kingdom authorities denied these reports.

In November 2017, about half a year after the successor change, the Saudi High Committee against Corruption, led by Mohammed bin Salman, detained dozens of the royal family, civil servants, and entrepreneurs at Ritz Carlton Hotel in Riyadh, accusing them of corruption . Most of them entered into a deal, agreeing to transfer part of the assets to the state at the expense of the damage caused.
