Russia’s UAV was shot down by armed opposition over Aleppo
ALEPPO, (DM) – In the west of the Syrian province of Aleppo, a Russian drone was destroyed, journalist Mohammed Gorab reported on Twitter, learned BulgarianMilitary.com.
He claims that this is a Russian drone, but other sources say that the device may belong to the Syrian army. It is difficult to identify him by the available frames.
Turkish journalist Levent Kemal said that the drone was shot down by the armed opposition.
Moscow began to increase sea and air supplies to Syria on February 28, the day after the Syrian army attacked a convoy of Turkish soldiers in Idlib province. This is an attack on a Turkish convoy in the Jebel al-Zawiya region.
The shelling killed more than 30 Turkish soldiers. The next day, Turkish journalist Hakan Celik said that Ankara could limit or completely block the Bosphorus Strait for Russian Navy ships amid escalation of the conflict in the Syrian province of Idlib.
The situation in Idlib, where the Syrian army launched a large-scale offensive at the beginning of this year, escalated in late February. Turkey, whose observation posts were behind the front line, demanded that Damascus withdraw troops, strengthened support for its loyal militants, and after the death of several dozen of its military as a result of Syrian air strikes, announced the launch of the Spring Shield operation in the region.
The Syrian government and its supporting Russia refused to stop the offensive. It is expected that the situation in Idlib will become a key topic of negotiations between the presidents of Russia and Turkey, Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, which are scheduled for March 5 in Moscow.
