Syria opposes Turkey’s ambitions in Libya
DAMASCUS, (BM) – Syria and the interim government of Libya, sitting in Tobruk, have signed a memorandum on the resumption of diplomatic missions and coordination of their positions in the international and regional arenas, learned BulgarianMilitary.com citing the Syrian agency SANA.

According to media reports, Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem on Sunday received a Libyan delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Abdel Rahman al-Ahirish, working in Tobruk, and Abdelhadi al-Khuweij, Foreign Minister.
“At the meeting, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Foreign Ministries of Syria and Libya regarding the resumption of the work of diplomatic missions and coordination of the two countries’ positions in the international and regional arenas,” SANA reports.
The agency also reported that, during the meeting, Muallem confirmed that Damascus pays particular attention to developing relations with Tripoli and opposes Turkey’s ambitions in Libya.
BulgarianMilitary.com recalls that on December 27 the Libya’s national consent government, which controls the western part of the country, has asked Turkey for military assistance.
The Libyan Government of the National Accord (PNS), sitting in Tripoli, Faiz Saraj, asked Turkey to provide air defense systems.

According to journalists, the Cabinet of Ministers in Tripoli also wants the Turkish Air Force to provide cover for the PNS ground forces.
On December 21, the Turkish leader ratified a memorandum of military cooperation with the government in Tripoli. That is, Turkish troops can at any time enter Libya to protect the PNS from the Libyan National Army, led by Khalifa Haftar.
