Russian Su-57 vs U.S. F-35 – the F-35 is likely to destroy Su-57, China said

BEIJING, (BM) – While the fifth-generation Russian fighter Su-57 is undergoing many years of testing, the American F-35 has been in service for a long time. Many Internet users are wondering which fighter is better: Su-57 or F-35? Who will win if fifth-generation fighters of the USA and Russia collide in the sky? After the publication of data on technical specifications and official ratings, these questions were answered in a new way, and this verdict will shock you: the F-35 is likely to destroy the Su-57. I am afraid that this time the Russians really boasted in vain.

To date, there are not many successful fifth-generation aircraft designs in the world. Among them, the American F-35 and the Russian Su-57 are undoubtedly worthy opponents, who appeared at one time. F-35 is a project of fighter-bombers, which is a joint development of several countries under the leadership of Lockheed Martin. It is available in three versions: F-35A – ground fighter for the air force, B – fighter with the possibility of short take-off and vertical landing, and F-35C – carrier-based fighter designed specifically for the US Navy. These aircraft are not only in large numbers in service with the US Army, but are also exported to Israel, Japan, Australia and other United States allies. We can say that at present these are the most produced and most widely used fifth generation fighters in the world.

Since the F-35 was specifically designed for the US Armed Forces, the Navy and Marines, which are large units of the Armed Forces, have very high demands on the multi-purpose combat capability of an aircraft. Therefore, in order to ensure the bomb load during an assault attack, during the production of the F-35, it was decided to abandon the placement of the bomb compartment on the side surface of the fuselage and deepen the main compartment in the bottom of the hull so that the aircraft could be equipped with heavy ammunition for assault attacks. In the production of the F-35B variant of the fighter, it was generally decided to refuse to place the gun on the internal suspension in order to be able to perform vertical take-off and landing; in air combat, only an air-to-air missile placed on the outside of the aircraft can be used. Thus, there is no doubt that in close combat, the American fighter will be slightly inferior to the Russian Su-57.

On the other hand, from the very beginning of the development of the Su-57 fighter, the Russian army very clearly defined its positioning as the new generation air fighter that replaced the Su-27. A number of new technologies were used to implement the project, for example, a new design of the moving leading edge was developed, which increased the level of the overall aerodynamic structure. If we talk about power, the latest Su-57 is equipped with a new generation Product-30 engine, with which it has already completed tests. In combination with rotary nozzles, this engine can allow a fighter to perform a wide variety of maneuvers.

However, all of the above advantages of the Su-57 are focused on maneuverability. But now it’s not the Second World War or the early period of the Cold War. The rapid development of radar and rocket science in recent decades has led to the fact that close air battles in the visibility zone are rarely fought now. During the Persian Gulf War and the Kosovo War, air battles basically ended up with NATO combat aircraft with technological advantages deciding the outcome of the battle out of sight.

In fact, in the course of such “cunning” reasoning it is difficult to answer exactly which fighter is better. Overall, the F-35 does better in airborne combat, while the Su-57 is likely to perform better in close combat. However, given the features and development trends of modern air combat, the Su-57 will be at a disadvantage when faced with the F35.
