Serbia has received Pantsir-S1 missile system and prepares for policy pressure

BELGRADE, (BM) – The Pantsir-C1 anti-aircraft missile and gun systems received from Russia will strengthen Serbia, but will cause increased foreign policy pressure on Belgrade, learned citing President Alexander Vucic.

According to the president, two of the six complexes under the contract were delivered.

“Serbia is the only one in the region that has the Pantsir-C1 air defense system, a defensive weapon, but the weapon that makes Serbia stronger and strengthens its military neutrality. There is no doubt that the “Shells” will cause increased pressure on Serbia,” RIA Novosti quoted Vucic as saying.

According to the Serbian leader, it was this ZRPK that Russian President Vladimir Putin recommended to him “as having shown himself well in the conflict in Syria.”

“We found money so as not to jeopardize the size of external debt, economic growth and the fact that Serbia is the best in the region in terms of economic growth,” the Serbian president said.

Vučić said that the Pantsir-C1 air defense missile defense system is especially effective against drones, missiles, low-flying aircraft and helicopters.

Last November Rosoboronexport’s head Alexander Mikheyev told reporters more details about pantsir-S1 purchase by Serbia: “[Missile systems] are being assembled, and [Serbian specialists] are being trained. Everything goes according to plan, there are no delays. Training will be completed soon, and the Russian side will start deliveries. The contract will be fulfilled in the next few months,”.

At the same meeting the Serbian President has also commented the possibility Serbia to buy S-400 missile defense system:

“From what I saw, this is an impressive system. But we don’t plan to purchase it because we don’t have money to pay for it, since we are building highways and investing in numerous other projects,” Vucic said.

“You know, if you have a weapon like this, no one will ever attack you. In places with S-400 systems, US or any other pilots don’t fly — not over Turkey, and Israeli pilots do not fly over Syria, except for the Golan Heights. We have aviation — stronger than ever before, and we will strengthen our defense systems with Pantsir [missile systems] and other things that are not on the [US] sanctions list,” he added.

“Serbia is a small country, surrounded by NATO. You could see from the reaction to S-400 what they want,” he said adding that he “will never allow such irresponsibility as in the 1990s again.”
