She noted that the Air Force was forced to choose between funding this program and the development of a split hypersonic Air-Based Rapid Arms Weapon (ARRW) complex. As a result, it was decided to keep the second program, Interfax reports.

As part of the HCSW project, a long-range missile with a speed of more than Mach 5 was to be created. Lockheed Martin Corporation received a contract for its development in 2018 in the amount of $ 918 million. The company has already been notified that the program has stopped.

The same corporation won a contract worth $ 989 million to continue implementing the ARRW program. For this missile, the speed of the warhead should be significantly higher than Mach 5. The completion of the creation of the rocket is scheduled for 2021, they plan to put them into service with the Air Force in 2022.
