Large-scale artillery fire in Idlib, 5 Turkish soldiers were killed, 5 more were wounded
DAMASCUS, (BM) – Forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad killed five Turkish soldiers in the northwestern Syrian province of Idlib on Monday, learned BulgarianMilitary.com, according NTV report, citing Turkish authorities and Forbes.
Artillery fire by the Syrian forces wounded another five troops as Turkey’s military was massing forces in the area, the last rebel stronghold in Syria.
Monday’s incident increased the number of Turkish troops killed in Idlib to at least 12 this month. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s communications director Fahrettin Altun said Turkish forces destroyed “enemy targets” following the attack, without giving details.
Turkey has been sending hundreds of tanks, armored personnel carriers and commandos across the border into Syria as the military prepares for a possible operation to break the grip of Syrian forces on areas surrounding Turkish outposts.
