India begins production of AK-203 assault rifle this year
NEW DELHI, (BM) – According to the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation, by the end of this year, 2020, the first batch of AK-203 assault rifles will be manufactured in India, learned BulgarianMilitary.com according TASS article.
Concern “Kalashnikov” became the owner of permits for the export of AK-203 about a year ago. And now comes a new stage in the long-established fruitful cooperation with India. A joint venture with Russian partners has been built in the Indian city of Corva.
There, they will also master the production of famous assault rifles, and Russian specialists will teach local colleagues the wisdom of the production and use of these weapons.
The primary, the so-called anchor order, will be, according to preliminary information, 650 thousand units of this formidable weapon. Components, experts say, will be mainly Indian-made.
The armed forces of India decided to abandon the “home” INSAS rifles in the spring of 2018. The reason was another skirmish on the border with Pakistan, where these weapons showed inefficiency. But experts believe that the problem is deeper, some of them use the term “operatively inadequate” rifles, and, moreover, attribute the problem back to 2010.
As for the new generation of Russian Kalashnikovs, they were originally intended for the special forces of our country. Now allowed to export. One of the purely external design features is an adjustable folding butt of the machine.
