Germany begins to slow down FCAS program. Europe wates Su-57’s data
BERLIN, (BM) – A number of European countries intend to participate in the program to create a new generation fighter. The project has already managed to get the name Future Combat Air System (FCAS), as BulgarianMilitary.com has reported last year.
As the military news resource Defense-Aerospace.com reports, the leaders of the air forces of Germany, Spain and France took an unprecedented step. Each of them sent an open letter to his government with a request to ensure decent financial conditions for the implementation of this program.
The documents indicate and explain the urgent need of the European powers for the FCAS project. In particular, the letters called for signing agreements with development companies, which are planned to be involved in solving the task. These are primarily Safran Military and Dassault Aviation.
It is assumed that the newest aircraft will have to make its first flight in 2026, and the year 2040 is called the date of initial operational readiness. Apparently, the fighter of joint production of Germany, Spain and France, according to its technical characteristics, will have to comply with the Russian Su-57.
Despite the enthusiasm of the three EU states, the signing of the Safran Military and Dassault Aviation contracts has not yet taken place. It is possible that the parties will come to an agreement and fix it on paper during the exhibition in Berlin, which will be held in May of this year. It is noteworthy that the delay is due to the fault of Germany. The budget committee of the state parliament cannot consider this issue in any way, because of which companies have already had to invest their own funds in the development of the aircraft.
The fifth-generation Russian fighter Su-57 will soon receive engines of the second stage, which will improve its flight characteristics. In addition, the honored military pilot of the Russian Federation Vladimir Popov believes that the aircraft has excellent prospects for further modernization.
