An incident with a Russia’s Su-27 fighter jet after interception of NATO’s aircraft

MOSCOW, (BM) – The Russian military information publication Krasnaya Zvezda, a departmental publication under the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, published an article stating that a Russian Su-27 fighter had an accident in attempt to intercept a NATO military aircraft, trying to violate the borders of the Russian Federation, learned BulgarianMilitary.com.

According to the presented data by the author, when Su-27 tries attempt to intercept a NATO aircraft, the fighter unexpectedly lost its maneuverability – one of the engines failed, as a result of which, the Russian Air Force combat aircraft nearly crashed.

From the statement of the MoD of Russian Federation: “One of the unremarkable days, the pilot on combat duty on our air defense, flew out to intercept another reconnaissance aircraft. After successfully completing the mission, he turned to the airfield. When flying over the Curonian Lagoon, the unexpected happened: one of the engines failed. It’s not enough to say the situation is unpleasant, the reason for the refusal could be anything, and it was impossible to predict how the technician would behave”

“In this situation, for me, it was necessary to land from the first approach. I know that the maneuverability of an aircraft with one engine running during landing is much lower. Ahead of the course, an airfield was already opening. The runway was fast approaching … I really took a breath only when the safely landed car was already parked” the real Su-27’s pilot said

It is not known exactly when this incident occurred, but earlier representatives of the Russian Ministry of Defense did not report the accident.
