This was announced on January 29 by the chief designer for air defense systems of the Shipunov Instrument Design Bureau (part of the “High-precision systems” of the Rostec state corporation).

“There are two missiles, they are fighting with a whole range of targets. One standard, another developed recently, it is hypersonic – its speed is 5 Machs and more,” TASS quoted him as saying.

Slugin added that the new missile flies faster to the target, which increases the rate of fire of the complex, as the firing channel is freed faster. In addition, in the warhead of the rocket you do not need to put a lot of explosives to fly apart the fragments, because the efficiency of the fragments is higher due to the speed of impact.

He noted that the Pantsyr missiles are not equipped with homing heads, since at the ranges at which the system operates, the necessary tasks can be solved by the telecontrol system of a missile with a combat vehicle.

Earlier, on January 20, it became known that Russia and Serbia entered into a contract for the supply of one battery of Pantsyr-S1 air defense systems.
