“We have made clear to other countries and forces that are in the region where our forces are located. We work through conflict prevention channels to ensure that there is no misunderstanding, no accidental clashes. We continue to do this,” Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman said.

He added that he has no evidence that a shootout occurred in Syria between the US and Russian military.

US troops in Syria remain in their positions and hold contacts with Russian counterparts to prevent conflicts, Hoffman also said.

“I can only say that we are located where we were, and they know where we are,” he emphasized.

The deputy commander of the operation against the Islamic State Alex Grinkvich confirmed that contacts between group leaders take place every week, and at lower levels almost every day. He specified that such contacts stipulate the actions of air and ground forces.

In December, The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Syria allegedly had a fight between the Russian and American military, but later refuted this information.

From the material in late December: “A fight broke out between the Russian and American military. Weapon did not apply.”

Then the Russian and US authorities declined to comment on the information.

It is unclear whether the same source of fake information is now spreading such rumors among media channels that would trigger the Pentagon’s response.

According to some Russian media, information about a shootout between Russian and US military has come from Iranian and Syrian websites.
