Haftar’s army shot down a Turkish drone in Tripoli

TRIPLOLI, (BM) – A Turkish drone was shot down by Libyan National Army (LNA) on Wednesday, which was preparing to attack its positions in the Tripoli region, learned BulgarianMilitary.com, quoting TASS and the statement of the main command of the Armed Forces, posted on his Twitter page.

“The Libyan Arab Armed Forces air defense calculations opened fire on a Turkish drone flying from Mitig air base and shot down in the sky over Tripoli when he tried to attack the army’s position,” the communiqué said.

Mitiga is a military airfield that has long been accepting domestic and international flights, since the main airport of Tripoli was seriously damaged during the July 2014 clashes between the armed groups of the loyal Zinta Brigade and the pro-Islamist Libyan Dawn alliance. Then, in battles, the infrastructure of this transport hub was almost completely destroyed: 90% of the aircraft were damaged or burned, the control tower was destroyed, and the runway required overhaul.

Earlier Wednesday, it was reported that Mitiga was hit by a missile, after which the airport stopped receiving and sending all flights, and the airspace over Tripoli was closed. Colonel Muhammad Kanuno, an official spokesman for the armed groups of the Government of National Accord (PNS) sitting in the capital, accused of involvement in the LNA attack, claiming that six missiles from the Grad multiple launch rocket launcher were launched through the air harbor. At the same time, as Kanuno pointed out, such actions “pose a serious threat to air traffic and violate the ceasefire agreement between the parties.”
