Russian missile shot down an attack drone; Turkey blocked NATO ships; French aircraft carrier in Middle East
PANAGYURISHTE, (BM) – Your briefly report on January 17 in last twelve hours from BulgarianMilitary.com:
Russian R-27ET missile shot down an unknown strike drone
An information appeared that the Russian supersonic R-27ET missile shot down an unknown shock-type unmanned aerial vehicle, presumably the Chinese CH-4B. We are talking specifically about the Russian missile, since the debris discovered indicates the fact that the R-27ET variant was used, which was adopted in 1990, i.e., just before the collapse of the USSR.

At the moment, it is known that an unmanned aerial vehicle of a strike type was destroyed on the border of Saudi Arabia and Yemen, while, despite the fact that the missile is an aircraft, the Hussites managed to successfully hit it with an aircraft from a ground launcher.

Judging by the wreckage of the drone, we can really talk about the attack drone CH-4B, which is in service with the Royal Air Force of Saudi Arabia, however, so far, no comments have been submitted by Riyadh on this subject.
Turkey blocked the Bosporus for NATO ships
As follows from the Nordic Monitor data, restrictions on the passage of NATO warships from the Mediterranean Sea to the Black Sea are already in effect, and therefore, even US Navy ships cannot freely enter the Black Sea region.
“At the meeting, Turkish officials emphasized that stability in the Black Sea should be maintained (paragraph 2.a); NATO activities will be supported in accordance with the restrictions imposed by the Montreux Convention (paragraph 2.b); and Russia should not be unduly provoked (paragraph 2.b), military protocols are disclosed. Turkey is a key country in the Black Sea because it controls the entry and exit to the sea through a system of straits, which includes the Istanbul / Bosphorus Strait, the Dardanelles / Canakkale Strait and the Sea of Marmara, connecting the Black and Mediterranean Seas,” Nordic Monitor reports by providing relevant documents.
According to current data, several NATO warships have already been denied passage through the Bosphorus, moreover, Ankara motivated this by the existing convention and agreements, however, experts draw attention to the fact that Turkey actively supports Russia trying to prevent any provocations from the North Atlantic alliance.
France to deploy Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier to support Middle East operations
France will deploy the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier and its battle group from January to April to support French military operations in Middle East, Emmanuel Macron said on Thursday, Reuters reports.
“The aircraft carrier will support Chammal operations (in the Middle East) from January to April 2020 before deploying to the Atlantic Ocean and the North Sea”, Macron said at a New Year speech to the French military.
The deployment comes amid growing tensions between Iran and the United States and French concerns that the fight against Islamic State militants may be weakened within that context.
