Russia proposes to protect Iraq with S-400 air defense systems

MOSCOW, (BM) – The most sophisticated air defense systems in the world may appear on the arsenal of Iraq, learned BulgarianMilitary.com, according Russian MoD statement and quoting RIA Novosti.

According to information provided by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, Iraq may become the owner of the most advanced and highly effective air defense and missile defense system in the world. We are talking about the sale to this country of Russian S-400 Triumph air defense systems, which, as RIA Novosti points out, can “ensure the country’s sovereignty and reliable airspace protection”.

“Iraq is a partner of Russia in the field of military-technical cooperation, and the Russian Federation can supply the necessary funds to ensure the sovereignty of the country and reliable protection of airspace, including the supply of S-400 missiles and other components of the air defense system, such as Buk-M3, Tor -M2 “and so on” said Igor Korotchenko, a member of the public council at the Russian Defense Ministry.

Experts draw attention to the fact that several months ago in Iraq they really considered the possibility of acquiring Russian air defense and missile defense systems, including the acquisition of the S-400 Triumph air defense systems, however, under pressure from the USA, they decided to postpone Baghdad purchase. Nevertheless, given the political crisis in relations between Iraq and the United States, Baghdad can indeed conclude a profitable deal with Russia.
