India retired Russia’s MiG-27; Armenia received Su-30M; Russia tests upgraded heavy helicopter

The Indian Air Force officially retired MiG-27 fighter bombers as part of the country’s military aviation modernization program.

According to The Times of India, during a farewell ceremony on Friday, an aerobatic team of seven such aircraft made their last flight over the Jodhpur air base in Rajasthan in the west of the country.

“Having entered service in 1981, the MiG-27 became the main Indian fighter-bomber. These aircraft took part in all major operations of the Air Force, and also played a key role in the 1999 Kargil conflict (with Pakistan),” the Indian Air Force said in a statement to TASS.

Recall that in March the media reported that the MiG-27 fighter-bomber of the Indian Air Force crashed near the city of Jodhpur in the state of Rajasthan in the north-west of the country.

A similar incident occurred in February – then the MiG-27 crashed in Rajasthan during a training flight.

First batch of Russian-made Su-30SM fighters arrives in Armenia

The first pair of Russian-made Su-30SM multirole fighters purchased by Armenia at the beginning of 2019 landed at an aerodrome in Southern Caucasus republic, Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced on his Facebook page on Friday.

“Our most important acquisition this year,” Pashinyan noted, demonstrating the delivered aircraft to his subscribers.

The Armenian authorities announced in early 2019 that they had acquired four Su-30SM multirole fighters from Russia.

The Su-30SM is a generation 4++ serial-produced and upgraded two-seat super-maneuverable fighter jet. The Su-30SM is furnished with two AL-31FP thrust-vectoring reheated double-flow turbofan engines. The fighter has an operating range of 1,500 km and a flight endurance of 3.5 hours without refueling.

The Ministry of Defense began state testing of a heavy helicopter Mi-26T2V

The Ministry of Defense, together with the Russian Helicopters holding, began state tests of the upgraded Mi-26T2V heavy helicopter. This was announced by the CEO of the holding Andrey Boginsky.

According to a widespread press release, state helicopter tests will last all 2020 and will be held at four training sites. A mixed crew of representatives of the holding and the Ministry of Defense will take part in the tests.

“Until date, the prototype Mi-26T2V has successfully completed preliminary factory tests, which allowed us to begin the program of state joint tests, which will last all 2020” declared Boginsky.

As previously reported, the first flight of the upgraded Mi-26T2V helicopter took place in August 2018, and preliminary tests that confirmed the characteristics inherent in the machine were completed in January of this year. Serial deliveries to the armed forces are planned to begin immediately after state tests. The Ministry of Defense intends to purchase at least 10 Mi-26T2V.
