US and Canada observe reconnaissance ship of the Russian Navy
WASHINGTON, (BM) – The US-Canadian Joint Aerospace Defense Command of North America (NORAD) has confirmed that it is monitoring the reconnaissance ship of the Russian Navy, Viktor Leonov, learned BulgarianMilitary.com. This was reported on December 17 in the official Twitter account of the command.

“NORAD and the Northern Command of the US Armed Forces are closely monitoring the movements of ships of interest, including foreign warships, such as the Russian ship Viktor Leonov, in our area of responsibility,” the statement said.
The command noted that they were aware of the “activities of Russia at sea”, including the deployment of reconnaissance ships in the region. What specific monitoring measures are being taken to monitor the command did not specify, but emphasized that in order to ensure the security of the United States and Canada, the military constantly conduct operations in the air and at sea.
Earlier, on December 16, CNN, citing US officials, reported that the Russian Navy reconnaissance ship Viktor Leonov was making unsafe maneuvers in international waters off the coast of South Carolina and Florida.

Officials whose names and positions are not indicated state that the ship does not turn on navigation lights in conditions of limited visibility and allegedly do not respond to requests from vessels passing in the area.
