Libya: UAE Air Force continues attacks in Tripoli

The Libyan government forces announced on Sunday evening that the UAE Air Forces launched airstrikes targeting the headquarters of the Faculty of Civil Aviation of Misrata, east of Tripoli.

Anadolu Agency quoted Mustafa Al-Majai, the Spokesman for the “Volcano of Rage Operation” of the Government of National Accord, as saying that UAE drones targeted the Air College in Misrata with two strikes.

Al-Majai added that the aerial bombardment targeted old stores in the faculty, and no human losses were registered, pointing out that the drones were dealt with by land anti-aircraft and they were forced to leave the airspace of the city.

This follows Misrata’s declaration of a state of alert.

Misrata stressed in a statement that it is working to “eradicate despotism and tyranny, support the will of the people and deter the plot of those who are lurking in Libya and seeking to dominate its decision and its wealth”, referring to the forces of retired Major General Khalifa Haftar.

Syrian, Russian navies hold joint exercises in Mediterranean

The Russian Navy and the Navy of the Syrian Arab Republic have started joint exercises in the Mediterranean Sea on Tuesday.

The source said the exercises involve Russian surface ships and aircraft from the Hmeymim airbase, as well as Syrian Navy missile boats and mine warfare vessels.

The commander of the exercises, Rear Adm. Alexander Yuldashev, said the maneuvers will be held in the common operating environment and will involve various tactical episodes.

“Tactical groups of Russian and Syrian Navy warships will engage in artillery fire training and joint maneuvers. On the shore, security and defense groups will practice anti-UAV measures and efforts to contain and eliminate consequences of an attack on Tartus base facilities,” he said.

The aim of the exercises is to increase interoperability between the armed forces of Russia and Syria and thus to make the anti-terrorism efforts more successful.

Lebanese army clashes with supporters of Hezbollah, Amal in Beirut

Lebanese troops lobbed tear gas on Tuesday to disperse supporters of Shi’ite groups Hezbollah and Amal who tried to storm a square in Beirut in response to a video that purportedly offended Shi’ite figures, witnesses and media reports said.

Hundreds of youths on motorcycles waving their party and religious flags gathered in downtown Beirut chanting “Shi’ites, Shi’ites” and setting fire to tyres. They hurled stones and fireworks at security forces standing nearby, witnesses said.

Ignoring calls for restraint by politicians, the youths tried to break a security cordon to storm the square where demonstrators have set up tents as part of an anti-government protest that has been going on for weeks.

In the vicinity of the area close to a main road that links the capital’s eastern and western sections, scores of youths had burnt tyres, smashed office buildings and torched several cars, live coverage by local television stations showed.
