Russia plans to test new generation of hypersonic warheads using the Sarmat missile system
MOSCOW, (BM) – The promising Russian strategic missile system Sarmat provides for the possibility of installing a new generation of hypersonic warheads, learned BulgarianMilitary.com, quoting said the commander of the Strategic Missile Forces of Russia, Colonel General Sergei Karakaev statement.
Karakaev said that preparations are underway “for flight tests of a new missile system with the Sarmat missile, which will be put on combat duty at the Uzhur missile compound in the Krasnoyarsk Territory.” A phased re-equipment of “all missile formations to the new Yars, Vanguard, and Sarmat missile systems is planned, writes Red Star.
The Strategic Missile Forces commander said that the “safety margin laid down by the creators” of the Voevoda missile system still allows him to remain part of the Strategic Missile Forces group. As Karakaev emphasized, “there is no equal in the world practice of military rocket science”.
The implementation of combat duty by the Voivode is planned prior to rearmament at Sarmat, which “in many respects will significantly surpass” its predecessor. In particular, Sarmat has the “ability to install promising warheads”, including “new generation hypersonic units”.
Recall that in the summer, President Vladimir Putin announced the supply of Sarmat, as well as the Peresvet laser system, the Poseidon submarine drone and the Dagger hypersonic missile to the troops.
