The US and Germany Will Pay Equally for NATO’s Collective Budget

This was announced by Secretary General of the Organization Jens Stoltenberg after his meeting in Paris with French President Emmanuel Macron.

Earlier, CNN, citing a number of US officials, said that the administration of President Donald Trump has taken steps to reduce its contribution to NATO’s collective budget.

So far, the United States provides about 22% of NATO direct funding, which in particular covers the cost of maintaining the plants.

“It is true that we have agreed to the new formula for the allocation of these costs (to the general budget), the US will pay less, the Federal Republic of Germany will pay more, ie. now the US and Germany will pay equal contributions, almost 16% of NATO’s budget. The rest will be distributed to the other allies,” Stoltenberg explained at a press conference in Paris.

Earlier this week the Administration of the US president Donald Trump decided to cut spending on payments to the NATO budget, learned, quoting a report of CNN.

The US Department of Defense’s channel’s source noted that the state will use the money saved to finance its remaining military operations, as well as to ensure security in Europe, including programs in Georgia and Ukraine that are not members of the alliance but are located in close proximity to Russia.
