Eight CIA Agents Have Been Captured in Iran, the State Agency IRNA Said
TEHRAN, (BM) – Iranian intelligence services have detained eight people associated with the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), learned BulgarianMilitary.com, quoting the statement of Iranian state agence IRNA.
According to the Iranian intelligence forces spying department, the detained American spies collected information about the unrest in the country under the guise of “citizen journalists”, compiled reports and transmitted them abroad. According to Tehran, among the materials sent abroad were videos of protests.
The agency notes that the local intelligence agencies previously monitored the detainees. Six were detained during the riots, and two others – before leaving the country.
In October, protests began in Iran, the reason for which was the decision of the authorities to increase gas prices. The country’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said Iran’s opponents and “foreign enemies” had sabotaged.
According to Amnesty International, at least 143 protesters died as a result of the riots. In November, against the backdrop of rallies in Iran, the Internet turned off more than once.
