The Russia`s S-400 Repels Attacks; Another Rocket Night in Israel; Turkey Can Buy Patriot Missile System
PANAGYURISHTE, (BM) – Your briefly report on November 15 in last twelve hours from BulgarianMilitary.com:
S-400 teams hold air defense and anti-saboteur drills in Crimea
The teams of S-400 surface-to-air missile systems practiced measures to repel saboteurs’ attacks during drills in Crimea, the press office of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet reported on Thursday.
Under the drills’ scenario, the personnel of an S-400 ‘Triumf’ battalion practiced operations to change positions and redeploy to an alternate area while a Pantsyr-S anti-aircraft missile/gun system shielded the troops’ movement.
During the march, “notional saboteurs attacked the troops.” “The defense unit dismounted while on the move and eliminated the enemy,” the press office said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Pantsyr-S teams detected an air target: a low-flying drone, which could carry underslung bombs for destroying S-400 launchers. The Pantsyr-S locked on the target and notionally destroyed it, the statement says.
After performing their march, the S-400 battalion pesonnel also practiced detecting, locking on and tracking targets with their subsequent destruction by electronic launches.
Israelis in south brace for more rockets as barrages continue despite Gaza ceasefire
The residents of southern Israel braced for another night of rocket fire Thursday, after rockets fired from Gaza kept coming in violation of the ceasefire that came into effect in the early hours of the morning.
Sirens sounded in Sderot and the Gaza border community of Shaar HaNegev at around 10pm. The Iron Dome missile defense system brought down two rockets over Sderot.
Fearing such truce breaches, Sderot municipality and local councils in the Gaza border area decided Thursday evening that local schools will remain closed Friday, despite a directive from the IDF Home Front Command to return to normal following the ceasefire with Islamic Jihad.
The city of Ashkelon said late Thursday that its schools would also remain closed Friday due to the ongoing rocket fire.
Erdogan: Turkey won’t give up on Russia’s S-400
Turkey will not give up on Russian S-400 air defense system to acquire US Patriots, the Turkish president said on Wednesday, stressing his country “can buy Patriots too”, Anadolu Agency reports.
“It is out of question to completely leave Russian S-400 to buy US Patriots. We can buy Patriots too. However, we will buy S-400 as well,” Recep Tayyip Erdogan told reporters in his flight en route to Ankara from Washington.
“Turkey can buy US Patriots, but we consider offers to buy just Patriots and completely put Russian S-400s aside as an interference in our sovereignty rights,” Erdogan added.
Turkey’s acquisition of the advanced Russian air-defense system prompted the Trump administration to remove Turkey from the F-35 fifth-generation joint strike fighter program in July.
The US maintains that the system could be used by Russia to covertly obtain classified details on the jet and is incompatible with NATO systems.
Turkey, however, counters that the S-400 would not be integrated into NATO systems and would not pose a threat to the alliance.
