S-300 air defense systems to go on experimental combat duty at Russia’s Tajikistan base
The teams of S-300PS self-propelled anti-aircraft missile systems will go on experimental combat duty at Russia’s 201st military base in Tajikistan on December 1, Central Military District Commander Alexander Lapin said on Thursday.
“A surface-to-air missile battalion armed with S-300PS systems will assume experimental combat duty from December 1. Work is currently underway to equip the positioning area for the hardware’s deployment, which is due to be completed before the end of November,” the commander said.
On October 26, a battalion set of S-300PS air defense missile systems arrived for the first time ever for the 201st Russian military base stationed in Tajikistan.
The battalion consists of about 30 items of military hardware, including the command post, launchers, a radar station, guidance systems and support vehicles. The battalion will be assigned the task of protecting facilities of the 201st military base against aerospace weapons and defending the airspace of the Central Asian collective security region jointly with the forces and material of the army of Tajikistan.
Despite the ceasefire, fresh bombardment in the Gaza Strip
Despite the ceasefire between Israel and the Islamic Jihad group as of today, five new rockets have been fired from the Gaza Strip in the direction of Israel.
The Israeli army has issued a special opinion that this is a violation of the ceasefire today. The Israeli army also confirmed that two of the five rockets were successfully captured by the Iron Dome system.
Israeli politician Ofir Akunis of the Likud Party has announced that if it is proved that the missiles were fired by the Islamic Jihad group, then Israel must respond immediately.
“If the fire at Netivot was carried out by Islamic Jihad, we must respond with IDF strikes,” Ofir Akunis tells Army Radio. “That we agreed to a ceasefire doesn’t mean that we have to leave the field open to their mad whims.”
We recall that the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip entered into force at 5.30 this morning, French press reported, citing high-level officials from Egypt and the radical Palestinian Islamic Jihad group .
The agreement was brokered by Egypt and approved by Palestinian groups, including Islamic Jihad. It provides for groups to guarantee the restoration of peace in the Gaza Strip and to maintain peace during demonstrations. Israel, for its part, pledges to end hostilities and abide by the ceasefire during Palestinian demonstrations.
