Nigerian Defence Industry Unveils Its Own Ezugwu 4×4 Armored Vehicle
ABUJA, (BM) – Armored vehicles are widespread around the world. Even countries whose military-industrial complex is in its infancy are engaged in their manufacture. This is facilitated by the availability on the world market of key units needed to create an armored car.
This time the Nigerian defense industry stood out. The local state corporation Defense Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) has demonstrated its new creation – the armored car Ezugwu (translated into Russian – “Mountain”), learned BulgarianMilitary.com, quoting Topwar.
Allegedly, this development belongs to the class of MRAP, that is, technology that is resistant to the destructive effects of mines.
As noted, the specified product is able to withstand the detonation of at least 12 kg of explosive under the wheels and 6,75 kg under the bottom of the armored housing. The machine’s power plant is a 615 horsepower diesel engine. The car is equipped with thermal imagers and a system of all-round cameras.
In total, the Nigerian armed forces plan to acquire 130 armored vehicles of this type.
DICON, a leading manufacturer of military products in Nigeria, was established in 1964. Then the West German company Fritz Werner was tasked with creating an ammunition plant in Kaduna. Now, according to the corporation, it is capable of producing a wide range of goods, including automatic weapon, pistols, grenade launchers, mortars.
