U.S. Develops Hypersonic Weapon Launch Detection Space System
WASHINGTON, (BM) – Database management and data flows in the missile defense system – the most significant problem in the development of the new network space sensors created to detect launches hypersonic and ballistic weapons, learned BulgarianMilitary.com.
The Pentagon for years has studied the problem of reflection attack hypersonic weapons and concluded that space probes – the only solution to protect the United States from such systems, the armament of Russia and China. Washington is going to create in space “touch layer”, which will help determine the time of the start and give the system the United States missile defense precious minutes and seconds to prepare.
Missile Defense Agency’s project is called Space tracking system for hypersonic and ballistic threats (Hypersonic and Ballistic Tracking Space Sensor; HBTSS). HBTSS will be built in the grouping (constellation) LEO Space Development Agency satellites.
For Vice-Admiral John Hill, director of the agency, the development of sensors for the system is completely solvable engineering problem, and the development of commercial space companies mean that the technology will be easy to bring into space, as soon as it is ready. The real problem is “the transfer of data between different spacecraft, support tracking and elimination of interference.”
Missile Defense Agency evaluates nine proposals on the architecture of the space probes. With the $ 73 million that Congress has already allocated, the agency is ready to proceed to the next phase of the program. Of the nine presented three decisions this year will be selected three, followed by a selection process lasting from six to nine months.
Hypersonic Weapon harder to track than traditional ballistic missiles. It is smaller and faster, making it difficult to detect as the warheads, and tracking them. To effectively accompany such a system by tracking sensors, and transmit information about it in real time, the sensor network would actually like to transmit tracking baton from sensor to sensor. Hill compared the complexity of the data from his service in the Navy, where information was transferred between moving ships, but the problem is the serial data transfer from the satellite to the satellite much more complicated.
