Turkish Attack in Syria is Coming; Russian Fleet Practice Anti-Submarine Warfare
PANAGYURISHTE, (BM) – Your briefly report on October 7 in last twelve hours from BulgarianMilitary.com:
U.S. pulls back troops in northeast Syria, opening way to Turkish attack
The United States began pulling troops back from the northeast Syria border on Monday, opening the way for a Turkish strike on Kurdish-led forces long allied to Washington, in a move U.S. President Donald Trump hailed as a bid to quit “endless wars”.
The major policy shift, which hands Turkey responsibility for thousands of jihadist prisoners, was denounced as a “stab in the back” by the Kurdish-led forces who have been Washington’s most capable partner in fighting Islamic State in Syria.
The forces, known as the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), accused Washington of reneging on an ally, warning it would have a “great negative” impact on the war against the militants.
But Trump said in several Tweets it was too costly to keep supporting Kurdish-led forces fighting Islamic State, adding “it is time for us to get out of these ridiculous Endless Wars”.
“Turkey, Europe, Syria, Iran, Iraq, Russia and the Kurds will now have to figure the situation out,” he said.
In a sign of deepening humanitarian concern, a U.N. official reacted to the move by saying civilians must be spared in any Turkish operation in the northeast, adding the United Nations hoped that displacement and atrocities can be prevented.
Over ten Black Sea Fleet’s warships to practice anti-submarine warfare in drills
A group of the Russian Black Sea Fleet’s warships will practice anti-submarine warfare during drills, the Fleet’s press office reported on Monday.
“Over ten ships and support vessels of the Black Sea Fleet have taken to the sea for drills in accordance with the Fleet’s combat training plan. The naval task force comprising the frigate Admiral Essen, the submarine Kolpino, the small anti-submarine warfare ships Kasimov and Suzdalets, as well as support vessels is accomplishing assignments at combat training ranges in the Black Sea,” the press office said in a statement.
The crews have already practiced measures to urgently prepare the warships for a battle and for their deployment, for their departure from the naval base and their transit to dispersal areas, and to organize all types of the vessels’ protection and defense in an unsafe roadstead, the statement says.
“During the drills, the warships’ crews will practice detecting and destroying a notional enemy’s submarine while the sub’s crew will be assigned the task of stealthily attacking a surface and a ground target and dodging the hostile force’s torpedo and bomb strikes. The drills will last through October 11,” according to the statement.
