The Next Chinese Aircraft Carrier is Planned to be Equipped with Electromagnetic Catapult
BEIJING, (BM) – The next Chinese aircraft carrier, which received the designation “Type 003”, is planned to be equipped with a standard power plant, that is, without a nuclear reactor, learned BulgarianMilitary.com, quoting Topwar.
At the same time, it will radically differ from its predecessors, being equipped with an electromagnetic catapult and having a displacement under 80 thousand tons. This was reported by Chinese media with reference to statements made by employees of Zhejiang University of Technology.
As expected, two ships of the new model will be available to the fleet before the 2030 year. It is expected that on their board will be located fixed in the number of aircraft wing – at least 50 units. This option “will achieve the greatest effectiveness of sorties.”
The fleet will be represented, most likely, mainly by the J-15 carrier-based fighter (created on the basis of the Su-33 purchased from Ukraine) – at least until the engine difficulties for the J-20 are resolved, and the J-31 does not have a marine prototype . These circumstances can move the construction of ships.
They will be served by 3-4 catapults capable of launching heavy vehicles. For example, the American Nimitz has four of these devices, the French Charles de Gaulle has two.
Apparently, the mast on the ships will be of a closed type, in which a dual-band radar will be placed.
“Thus, the capacity of the Type 003 aircraft carrier will far exceed the Liaoning or the 002 model, and the overall combat potential will be significantly higher”, note the Chinese media.
