Iran Unveils Air Defense System; Syrian Regime Attacks Turkish Observation Post

PANAGYURISHTE, (BM) – Your briefly report on August 22 in last twelve hours from BulgarianMilitary.com:

Iran Unveils Bavar-373 Air Defense System

Iran on Thursday revealed the Bavar-373 air defense system, described as a “substantial upgrade” over the Russian-made S-300, Israeli Defense reported.

The unveiling ceremony was attended by President Hassan Rouhani, Defense Minister Brig. Gen. Amir Hatami, and other senior military officials.

“With this long-range air defense system, we can detect … targets or planes at more than 300 km (190 miles), lock it at about 250 km, and destroy it at 200 km,” Defense Minister Amir Hatami told state television, according to Reuters.

The long-range defense system is said to be capable of detecting up to 100 targets simultaneously and engage six targets at a time.

Bavar-373 reportedly uses a long-range, phased array fire-control radar, dubbed Me’raj-4. It utilizes Sayyad-4 surface-to-air missiles said to have a maximum range of 200 km.

Syrian regime attacks Turkish observation post in Idlib

Continuing its violations of last year’s cease-fire agreement, the Syrian regime on Thursday attacked a Turkish military observation post in northwestern Syria with harassment fire, officials told Anadolu Agency.

Regime jets fired heavy machine guns near observation point no. 8 in Maaretinuman, in southeastern Idlib — a zone where acts of aggression are forbidden — they said, speaking on condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to speak to the media.

The harassment fire did not cause any damage, they added.

Observation post 8 in Sirman is located north of Khan Shaykhun, a town regime forces battered on Wednesday.

The Bashar al-Assad regime struck Khan Shaykhun at midday on Tuesday backed by Iranian-backed foreign terrorist groups and Russian special forces.

There are still a small number of opposition fighters and anti-regime armed elements in the area.

On Monday, regime airstrikes targeting a Turkish convoy en route to observation post no. 9 killed three civilians and injured 12 others.
