An Attack on a Civilian Saudi Airport; Russia`s Il-112V is Ready for Second Flight Test; Israel Between F-15 and F-35
PANAGYURISHTE, (BM) – Your briefly report on July 02 in last 12 hours from BulgarianMilitary.com news team:
Iran-backed Yemen rebels injure nine in strike on Saudi airport
A Yemeni rebel attack on a civilian airport in southern Saudi Arabia wounded nine civilians Tuesday, the Riyadh-led coalition said, the latest in a series of strikes on the site, The Times of Israel reported.
“The terrorist attack on Abha airport… led to the injury of nine civilians, including eight Saudi citizens and one carrying an Indian passport,” the military coalition said in a statement carried by the official Saudi Press Agency.
Earlier, the Iran-aligned Houthi rebels said they “launched a wide operation targeting warplanes at Abha international airport” with drones, according to their Al-Masira television channel.
The rebels in neighboring Yemen – who have faced persistent coalition bombing since March 2015 which has exacted a heavy civilian death toll – have stepped up missile and drone attacks across the border in recent weeks.
On June 12, a rebel missile attack on Abha airport wounded 26 civilians, drawing promises of “stern action” from the coalition.
And on June 23, another rebel attack on Abha airport killed a Syrian national and wounded 21 other civilians, according to the coalition.
The raids come amid heightened regional tensions after Washington – a key ally of Riyadh – accused Iran of shooting down a US drone over international waters and of carrying out attacks on oil tankers in the strategic Gulf of Oman.
Second flight of Il-112V military transport aircraft set for 2020 — chief designer
The second flight of the Il-112V military transport aircraft will be performed at the start of 2020, chief designer Sergey Lyashenko told TASS on Tuesday.
“At the start of 2020, we have not set the concrete date yet,” Lyashenko said in response to a question about the second flight of Il-112V.
The Il-112V aircraft successfully completed its first flight from an aerodrome in Voronezh on March 30. The flight lasted for 45 minutes.
Il-112V is the fist military transport aircraft designed in Russia from scratch in the post-Soviet period.
The F-35 is Critical to Countering Hezbollah’s Rocket Threat
As the Israeli Air Force is still deciding whether to purchase another squadron of F-35 fighter jets or advanced F-15s, Lockheed Martin chief Marillyn Hewson delivered a keynote address at the Herzliya Conference, praising the advantages of the fifth-generation aircraft and their contribution to Israel’s national security, Israel Defense reported.
“Israel understands that the Mighty One (=’Adir,’ the IAF designation of the F-35) is a game changer, an integrator, and a force multiplier. First and foremost, the F-35 provides game-changing survivability. The F-35 ‘Adir’ can go where no fourth-generation aircraft can go. And it can engage at distances and with accuracy far beyond the reach of legacy aircraft.” These remarks were made by Marillyn Hewson, Chairman, President and CEO of Lockheed Martin, during her speech at the 2019 IDC Herzliya Conference.
“Its combination of speed and stealth capabilities, combined with advanced countermeasures and electronic-attack capabilities, enable the F-35 to overcome increasingly sophisticated defenses and provide an asymmetric impact. The F-35 effectively expands the battlespace and transforms the definition of air dominance. These abilities make the ‘Adir’ more than a deterrent. The ‘Mighty One’ gives senior government and military leaders a decisive strategic tool.
“Another key strength of the F-35 is its role as an integrator. The F-35 has the capability to merge information from its advanced sensors and avionics. And it can fuse information from multiple domains across the battlespace which it then presents to the pilot as intelligible and actionable information.”
