A Missile Attack of Yemen’s Houthis; Saudi Prevented Another Airstrike; Iran ‘Shoots Down’ US Spy Drone

PANAGYURISHTE, (BM) – Your wake-up news report on June 20 from BulgarianMilitary.com news team:

Yemen’s Houthis say they struck power station in Saudi’s Jizan province

Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthis said on Wednesday that they struck a power station in Saudi Arabia’s Al-Shuqaiq city, in Jizan province, with a cruise missile, the group’s Al Masirah TV said and Eurones reported.

There was no immediate confirmation from Saudi authorities.

The Houthis, who ousted the Saudi-backed internationally recognised government from power in the Yemeni capital Sanaa in late 2014, have stepped up missile and drone attacks on Saudi cities in the past two weeks.

Saudis shoot down drone launched from Yemen’s Houthis

Saudi air defences on Wednesday shot down a drone launched by Houthi rebels from Yemen, according to a spokesman for the Saudi-led coalition, MEMO reported.

“The drone was intercepted over [Yemen’s] Hajjah province before entering the Saudi airspace,” Colonel Turki Al-Malki said in a statement cited by the official SPA news agency.

Last month, Riyadh accused Houthi rebels of carrying out drone attacks on two oil-pumping stations on the East-West pipeline, which carries Saudi oil from the eastern province to the port in the western coast.

In 2015, Saudi Arabia and a group of Arab allies — who accuse the Houthis of serving as an Iranian proxy — launched a massive military campaign against the rebels, who overran much of Yemen, including the capital Sanaa a year earlier.

The ongoing violence has devastated Yemen’s basic infrastructure, prompting the UN to describe the situation as “one of the worst humanitarian disasters of modern times”.

Iran says Revolutionary Guard shoots down US drone

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said Thursday it shot down a US drone amid heightened tensions between Tehran and Washington over its collapsing nuclear deal, the Times Of Israel reported. The US military declined to immediately comment.

The reported shootdown of the RQ-4 Global Hawk comes after the US military previously alleged Iran fired a missile at another drone last week that responded to the attack on two oil tankers near the Gulf of Oman. The US blames Iran for the attack on the ships, which Tehran denies.

Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard, which answers only to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said it shot down the drone Thursday morning when it entered Iranian airspace near the Kouhmobarak district in southern Iran’s Hormozgan province. Kouhmobarak is some 1,200 kilometers (750 miles) southeast of Tehran and is close to the Strait of Hormuz.
