EXCLUSIVE: US Intelligence Officials and Satellite Photos Detail Russian Military Buildup on Crimea
Five S-400 anti-aircraft missile batteries, plus additional troops and fighters, let Moscow better defend the Black Sea and threaten Europe and the Middle East, Defense One reports.
Russia has added troops, aircraft, and weapons to Ukraine’s Crimean peninsula in what amounts to a “significant” buildup of forces over the past 18 months, according to U.S. intelligence officials, observers, and new satellite photos that reveal the locations of new S-400 air defense systems and improvements to Soviet-era bases.
Turkey’s Erdogan says Turkey has definitely bought Russian S-400 defence system
Turkey has already bought S-400 defence systems from Russia which he hopes will be delivered in July, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday, Reuters reports.
U.S. acting Secretary of Defense Patrick Shanahan last week outlined how Turkey would be pulled out of the F-35 fighter jet programme unless Ankara changed course from its plans to purchase the S-400 missile defence system.
But speaking at his AK Party group meeting, Erdogan said Turkey will hold to account anyone who excluded Turkey from the F-35 programme.
Israeli army ‘deliberately’ targeted homes in Gaza: NGO
The Israeli military “deliberately” targeted residential buildings in blockaded Gaza strip on May 3-6, 2019, an Israeli rights group said in a report Wednesday, MEMO reports.
“Israel launched airstrikes and fired shells at more than 350 targets in Gaza, injuring 153 people and killing 25 – including 13 people who were uninvolved in the hostilities and were unaffiliated with the militant groups,” said the report by the Israeli Information Center for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories.
According to the report, among the victims were two minors – a three-month-old baby girl and an 11-year-old boy – and three women, one of them pregnant.
”These strikes are part of a policy formulated by government officials and the senior military command,” it added.
