Coalition Partner in the Bulgarian Government Does Not Want Bulgaria to Buy the F-16
SOFIA, (BM) – The friction between the partners in the so-called small coalition in the structure of the ruling government of Bulgaria continues, learned BulgarianMilitary.com.
Volen Siderov announced himself against the purchase of US fighter aircraft for BGN 3 billion. In the studio of “Hello, Bulgaria”, he said that with their acquisition we were doing the United States a favour.
“This is a deal that is a gesture to the United States, but with a bend at the waist that damages Bulgaria. The United States has given Egypt, Indonesia, and even non-NATO countries, similar aircraft as a present. Why do they want to fleece their partners? So we will pay 3 billion as little boys,“ Siderov thinks.
Krasimir Karakachanov countered that the modernization of the army had not been made for decades.
“Over the past few years, as many funds have been allocated for the army as decades have not been spent.”
The modernization of the Air Force is the most expensive military project in Bulgaria.
BulgarianMilitary.com recalls that the Bulgarian Minister of Finance, Vladislav Goranov, said a day ago that Bulgaria could afford to pay at once.
The government hoped to pay it in installments, but it was difficult to negotiate a profitable financial scheme. During the negotiations with the US, a state loan option was being discussed, but the Cabinet obviously supposes that things can go in a different direction.
