The Tactical Exercise of the Bulgarian Air Defence – Shabla 2019 Has Begun. Serbia and the U.S. Also Participate
VARNA, (BulgarianMilitary.com) – Yesterday, June 10, was opened the joint tactical exercise “Shabla 2019” with combat firing of Air Defence formations of the Bulgarian Army, joint experimental and combat firing of aviation formations of the Air Force with international participation, firing with missile complex 9K79 Tochka, and performance of firing tasks at afloat targets with artillery material unit by the Land Forces, learned BulgarianMilitary.com.
The main purpose of the exercise is improvement of the interaction between the Bulgarian Army formations participating in a joint group for carrying out an operation to ensure the air and maritime sovereignty of the Republic of Bulgaria when covering the state border.
The combat equipment with which the Bulgarian Air Force are participating in “Shabla 2019” includes the S-300, S-125 “Neva”, 2K12 “Kub” surface-to-air missile (SAM) systems and “Strela- 2M” man-portable surface-to-air missile (SAM) systems, MiG-29 fighter jets, Su-25 attack aircraft and Mi-24 helicopters.
The Republic of Serbia participates with surface-to-air missile formations and crews, and aircraft from the fighter aviation. They will perform “surface-to-air” launches with the S-125 “Neva”, 2K12 “Kub” and “Strela-2M” SAM systems, and “air-to-air” launches with MiG-29 aircraft.
The United States participates with surface-to-air missile formations of its Land Forces. They will perform “surface-to-air” launches with the “Avenger” SAM system. The US side will provide radio-controlled targets for the firing of its formations and for joint firing with the Air Defence formations of the Bulgarian Land Forces.
More than 1,400 are the servicemen from the three countries involved in the exercise.
