Russia`s Aerial Strikes in Syria – 25 killed; Russian Submarine ‘Attacks’ Enemy; More U.S. Troops to Mideast

PANAGYURISHTE, (BulgarianMilitary.com) – Aerial strikes on Monday killed at least 25 people, mostly civilians, in northwestern Syria in the sixth week of a Russian-led military offensive that has so far killed hundreds of civilians, according to residents and civil rescuers, Reuters reported.

They said war planes flying at high altitude, which monitors said were Russian Sukhoi jets, dropped bombs on the village of Jabala in southern Idlib province, with rescuer teams so far pulling out 13 bodies, including women and children.

Russian Pacific Fleet’s submarine attacks ‘enemy’ ships at Far Eastern drills

The Komsomolsk-on-Amur submarine of the Russian Pacific Fleet has torpedoed a group of ‘enemy’ ships during drills in the Sea of Japan, spokesman for the Pacific Fleet Nikolay Voskresensky said on Tuesday, TASS reported.

“In accordance with the combat training plan, the diesel-powered submarine Komsomolsk-on-Amur of the Pacific Fleet’s Primorskaya Flotilla attacked a group of ‘enemy’ ships,” Voskresensky said.

More troops to Mideast?

Want more U.S. troops in the Middle East? CENTCOM’s commander, Gen. Frank McKenzie, is certainly thinking about it, according Defense One.

He spoke to the Wall Street Journal’s Gordon Lubold aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) in the Arabian Sea for a report Sunday about Iran and his combatant command possibly “expanding military capabilities to ensure the U.S. has a long-term, credible deterrence force in the region.”

Writes Lubold: “Such a move would amount to a significant reversal in the U.S. global military posture, which has shifted away from the Middle East under the Trump administration’s national security strategy, which emphasizes risks from competition with Russia and China.”
