Russia Will Demonstrate Its Su-57; Northrop GPS SDR Navigation Solution; RAAF C-130Js Upgrade
PANAGYURISHTE (BGM) – Russia will demonstrate its most advanced Su-57 fifth-generation fighter jet at the MAKS-2019 aerospace show in the town of Zhukovsky outside Moscow, TASS reported.
“The delegations from the Air Force and all the guests of the MAKS international aerospace show in the town of Zhukovsky near Moscow will be able to view the newest Su-57 fifth-generation fighter jets from August 27 to September 1,” arms seller Rosoboronexport said.
Northrop Grumman, in partnership with the US Air Force Research Laboratory Sensors Directorate, demonstrated a software defined radio (SDR)-based, M-code enabled GPS receiver on production-capable hardware during a recent flight test, the company announced on 24 May, Shephard reported.
In real-time, the SDR acquired and tracked the modernised GPS military signal, known as M-code, during a live-sky demonstration.
Northrop Grumman has attained a security certification milestone by attaining Certification Requirements Review approval for the SDR-based GPS receiver from the GPS Directorate. This milestone constitutes a critical step on the way to fielding an M-code enabled GPS receiver that can be operated in an unclassified environment.
The RAAF’s fleet of 12 Lockheed Martin C-130J Hercules transports has commenced an upgrade program to install new Mode 5 Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) systems and Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast (ADS-B) transponders, ADBR reported.
The installation is being conducted by Airbus Australia Pacific in conjunction with CASG’s Air Lift Systems Program Office (ALSPO) and Lockheed Martin. The Mode 5 IFF is the current NATO standard system, while ADS-B is the new transponder format used by civilian and military air traffic control services.
“This upgrade not only better informs air traffic control and other airspace users, it helps our crews to maintain airspace awareness and complete their missions safely,” Commander Air Mobility Group, AIRCDRE Bill Kourelakos said in a statement.
