The United States Has Given Turkey Two Weeks to Abandon the Russian S-400 Missile Systems
WASHINGTON, (BM) – In a little more over two weeks, Turkey must finally make a decision on the issue of the purchase of the US fighter jets – F-35 bombers instead of the Russian S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems. Otherwise, the United States is threatening Ankara with the most negative consequences, learned BulgarianMilitary.com, quoting news from the US television channel CNBC, referring to sources from the State Department.

According to their data, Washington insists on Ankara’ canceling the S-400 purchase by the end of the first week of June. This offer from the United States is final, there will be no further delay, the sources of the channel pointed out.

“NATO countries need to procure military equipment that is interoperable with NATO systems. A Russian system would not meet that standard,” one of the State Department sources said. “We underscore that Turkey will face very real and negative consequences if it completes its S-400 delivery,” the source added. Exclusion from the F-35 program, cost recovery for 100 ordered but undelivered aircrafts, imposing US sanctions and penalties through NATO are the expected consequences for Turkey.

Last Friday, a meeting was held in Istanbul between the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the Chairwoman of the Russian Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko. According to her, the Turkish leader has assured that Ankara will fulfill the contract for the purchase of S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems from the Russian Federation, despite the unprecedented pressure on his country.
