WASHINGTON, the U.S. (BulgarianMilitary.com) – A group of US congressmen, representing the Democrats and Republicans, presented a resolution calling on several committees of the US House of Representatives for “full implementation of sanctions” against Turkey under the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA), and for excluding this country from the F-35 fifth-generation aircraft program in the case of Ankara ‘s acquisition of the Russian S-400 air and missile defence system, the press service of the House Foreign Affairs Committee announced on Wednesday, learned BulgarianMilitary.com.

“Turkey is a long-standing ally, but they face a clear choice. If Ankara buys Russian missile systems, the United States should immediately implement sanctions and boot Turkey from the F-35 program. Our bipartisan resolution should be taken as a clear statement from Congress that Turkey must choose: partner with Russia or its NATO allies. I hope Erdogan makes the right decision,” said Michael McCaul, the Committee’s Ranking Member.

The draft resolution notes that the House of Representatives “calls for full implementation of sanctions under the CAATSA of 2017 if Turkey acquires the Russian S–400 air and missile defense system” and “calls on the Government of Turkey to cancel the acquisition of the Russian S–400 air and missile defense system”. In addition, congressmen call for “terminating Turkey’s participation in the F–35 industrial program and delivery of F–35 aircraft to Turkey if Turkey acquires the Russian S–400 air and missile defense system.”
